Description
When the Palace Hotel was built in 1875 it was one of the most luxurious and opulent hotels in the United States. This piece shows us the hotel in all its luster around the turn of the 19th century. Only a few short years later the hotel would be ravaged by the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake. At the corner of Market, Geary and Kearny streets, across from the hotel is Lotta’s Fountain, one of the oldest surviving monuments in San Francisco.
